What is a Multi-Classroom Leader (MCL)?
The Multi-Classroom Leader (MCL) role is an opportunity for teachers seeking a school-based leadership opportunity. The role of an MCL varies from school to school, but most MCLs teach for part of the day, lead a team of teachers, provide coaching to team teachers, and serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team. The MCL serves as a critical member of the school’s leadership team, meeting regularly with the principal to receive support and grow as a leader. The MCL shares responsibility for the learning and development of all students taught by teachers on her/his team.
How many teachers does an MCL work with?
An MCL leads a team of between two and six teachers.
How can I become an MCL?
In order to be hired as an MCL, you must first be accepted into our MCL Candidate Pool. As a member of the MCL Candidate Pool, a principal will be able to interview you for an MCL position.
Can I be an MCL and travel to different schools to coach teachers?
No. MCLs are school-based attending to one school.
What are the benefits of becoming an MCL?
MCLs build the capacity of peers to improve practice, and improve student outcomes. MCLs receive an additional stipend ranging from $7,500 to $11,000 depending on the number of teachers supported.
